The Commission on Space is dedicated to the development of space infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and the long‑term sustainability of orbital and suborbital activities. Areas of Activity

Spaceports and Launch Infrastructure

The Commission studies and supports the planning and development of modern launch infrastructure. Key topics include site selection and environmental considerations for spaceports, coastal, offshore, and mobile launch platforms, integration of spaceports with airport infrastructure, safety zones and operational standards, and logistics and supply chains for launch operations. As launch frequency increases worldwide, spaceports are becoming permanent components of global infrastructure rather than isolated facilities.

Satellite Ecosystems and Orbital Services

Satellites have become critical infrastructure for communication, navigation, climate monitoring, and security. The Commission examines satellite servicing and life‑extension technologies, orbital refueling concepts, small satellite constellations, ground segment infrastructure and its integration with other networks, and the long‑term sustainability of satellite systems. As the global economy grows more dependent on orbital assets, reliability and coordination become essential.

Space Traffic Management and Debris Mitigation

Orbital congestion is emerging as one of the most serious long‑term risks in space activity. The Commission focuses on monitoring and coordination of space traffic, international approaches to collision avoidance, debris tracking and removal technologies, standards for responsible end‑of‑life satellite operations, and protection of the orbital environment over the long term. Without coordinated action, low Earth orbit risks becoming progressively more hazardous for future missions.

Suborbital and Commercial Space Operations

A new category of vehicles and operations is appearing between aviation and traditional spaceflight. The Commission studies regulatory frameworks for suborbital transport, integration of suborbital trajectories with civil aviation corridors, infrastructure requirements for commercial spaceflight, passenger and cargo safety standards, and licensing and operational oversight models. Frameworks for the Space Economy

Space is evolving into an industrial and commercial domain that requires new financial, legal, and operational models. The Commission explores investment structures for space infrastructure, public‑private partnerships in space projects, insurance and risk management in space operations, governance models for emerging space industries, and the long‑term economic sustainability of orbital infrastructure. Space activity is moving beyond exploration toward a permanent economic presence.
